  • I think a lot of people are under the notion that they have to use weights to get that resistance for strength training and that’s simply not true. If you hate using weights, then use resistance bands. The Bodylastics resistance bands (shown above) have clips on the tubes so you can combine the bands for custom resistance levels.

The included attachments allow you to not only do upper body exercises, but also legwork, overhead and sideways workouts at multiple levels. It’s the only piece of exercise equipment that I know of that can workout your entire body and all for under $50 for an entire system. You don’t need an expensive multi-gym system taking up room in your home.

It would have to be at a very high resistance and you would have to use it in both forward and reverse directions. I would recommend you try a variety of activities that you actually enjoy to build your strength. For example: Sprinting is a good way to build strength if you like to run. The more activities that you get involved in, the better results you are going to see. Increase your level of activity gradually so that you don’t injure yourself. You might also want to try alternating "easy" workout days with "challenging" workout days.

The only thing that you are going to strenthen on an eliptical are your glutes and leg muscles. You will tone your arms, back and abs, but there is nothing like weights! I used to hate weight training too but if you can find a routine that you can tolerate, it’s worth it. The results that you will see from free weights will be more beneficial in the long run.
