The Power of Resistance Training
There are three different types of resistance training. Each type serves its own purpose. Resistance training is basically any exercise that causes the muscle to contract against a external resistance. The external resistance can be anything whether it is free weights, medicine balls, bands, or anything else that provides resistance.
Type #1- Olympic lifting.
This is anything that involves lifting weights over your head, such as seen in the Olympics.
Type #2- Power Lifting.
This is normally done by men, although some women may participate, is the heavy lifting of weights. Normally very few repetitions are completed. Common exercises include heavy squats, dead lift, bench press. This type of lifting should only be done by those that are experienced with weights and know the limits of their capabilities. Serious injury can result if done by novices that are inexperienced and still learning their capabilities.
Type #3-Weight lifting.
Weight lifting is anything that involves weights, whether they are free weights, cables, or machines.
Basically resistance training is when there are microscopic tears to the muscle and when the repair themselves they are stronger than before the tear.
This type of training has been proven to slow the aging process by continuing to build muscle and strength. Continue to use a variety of resistance exercises within your exercise routine for optimal results. Use a combination of free weights, equipment and machines to get the maximum benefit from each.
If you do resistance training correctly then you will notice tremendous results in terms of your definition, muscle growth, and overall strength.
