@Brad, you must have bands with handles attached. If you had Bodylastics resistance bands with clips, you’d be able to combine the bands for custom resistance levels and you wouldn’t be doing 20 reps.
I can only tell you my experience with the bands. I have always been a guy who wanted to throw around free weights. In fact, a few years ago when I started working out again, I was still throwing around weights. I decided to go ahead and give the resistance bands a try. For me, they have done a great job.
The only con I find is that I am using the heaviest resistance band now and some exercises I can do 18-20 reps. I think that might be a bit much. Everything else has been positive. The burn is totally different then the pump from free weights. The bands are a little more restrictive with form because free weights are just plain easier to cheat. With free weights you get a pump but with bands its a constant pull.
This has been my experience. I lost my initial 45 lbs using free weights, The last 50 has been from bands. I am leaner now than I ever have been. So for me I am sticking with the bands for awhile.
I use the Yoga Mat for Ab Ripper X and I like the extra cushion for the Yoga day of P90X
