Lose More Weight by Drinking More Water

Most people are aware that water is crucial to maintaining body hydration. However, many people may not be aware that water is also vital for digestion. Water aids in the movement of chemicals and nutrients through the body, as well as in oxygen transport, joint lubrication, and temperature regulation. Water is easily lost from the body – even just breathing causes the expulsion of close to a pint of water per day via exhalation. Maintaining plentiful water intake is important for the body’s health – and for weight loss.

Lack of sufficient water can cause serious problems in the body, including fatigue, digestive problems, muscle atrophy, muscle and joint pain, toxin accumulation, water retention, and weight gain. In fact, some of these side effects – digestive problems, toxin accumulation, and water retention – can all effect the body’s ability to lose weight, making proper water intake a vital part of weight loss.

The average adult needs to consume about ten eight-ounce glasses of water each day, and anyone who is physically active should consume even more. For those who are overweight, an additional glass of water should be consumed for every twenty-five pounds of extra weight. Maintaining proper water intake can have multiple health benefits, and make weight loss easier. For maximum results, water should be consumed steadily throughout the day, rather than all at once or going several hours without drinking water. Without sustained water consumption, the body may not be able to fully absorb all the water it needs, and full benefits will not be seen.

Initially, an increase in water consumption may cause frequent trips to the bathroom, but once the body adapts to the changes in water intake, the urge to urinate should return to normal frequency.

Remember, water intake means just that – water intake. Consumption of other fluids, though they contain water, will not have the same effect on the body system as pure water. Not only do fluids such as soda, tea, coffee, or juice usually contain extra calories, they also contain other substances like sweeteners, flavorings, caffeine, etc., which prevent them from having the same cleansing and hydrating effect as water alone. Though these other beverages can surely be enjoyed, they should be consumed in addition to – rather than in place of – your daily amount of water. By increasing your daily consumption of pure water, you can make it easier for your body to lose weight.
