How To Tweak Your Diet If You Hit A Plateau
Hitting a plateau happens to everybody and it can be extremely demoralizing. After all, no one likes to see their progress come to a screeching halt.
And the sad part here is that many people simply do not know what changes to make to get out of this hole.
So here are 6 strategies for getting out of a dieting plateau:
1. Start keeping a log: Without a nutrition log you will not be able to see where the calories are coming from. Additionally, you will not be able to pick up on the subtle patterns which can help shed light as to what’s going on.
2. Ramp up vegetable intake: This alone can get you out of a plateau and the best part is that it’s so simple. You see, vegetables slow down digestion, keep insulin low, increase energy and increase feelings of fullness. So don’t delay here and start eating more vegetables.
3. Start reducing portion sizes little by little: Go overboard here and things will backfire badly. You see, your body can sense when you have gone too far with caloric restriction. And it’s response will be to shut down fat burning systems.
4. Ramp up exercise: You will feel less hungry if you increase your caloric deficit via exercise. You see, your body is much more sensitive to caloric deficits created with diet. So increase the duration and intensity of your exercise routine to jump start results.
5. Make sure you are in a hole: Too many people fall under the false assumption that they are in a dieting hole. In reality, they are making progress, but they aren’t tracking the right things. To avoid this, make sure you don’t rely on weight alone as a measure of progress.
6. Weigh and measure your food: This should be seen as a last resort. Do not do this from the outset, it will burn you out. Only do this if all else fails. You see, when you weigh and measure your food, there is no margin for error.
There is no reason to remain in a plateau if you want to keep on getting results. Experiment with the different recommendations here and settle with the one that works best!
