I just ordered the P90x program and now I want to be prepared for when it comes in the mail so I can start off right away, but I am not sure of the materials. I know I need a chin up bar, so I think I can find one that goes in the doorway, but do I need both resistance bands and dumbbells, and if I only need one or the other, which is more effective with the works or is it identical? Thanks.
Both dumbbells and resistance bands have their place. Get both if you can afford it. If it’s one or the other, go with Bodylastics resistance bands. You’ll be able to workout your entire body with them, not just upper body. And unlike dumbbells which are a little heavy, you can take the resistance bands with you.
Another major reason to go with Bodylastics is that you can easily increase the resistance level simply by combining the bands. If you want to increase resistance with dumbbells, you have to buy more dumbbells, unless you get the adjustable kind like the Bowflex SelectTech shown here.
